First Hot Coffee, now full nudity?

With the highly anticipated Lost and Damned DLC coming out for GTA IV, you know Rockstar has to throw something out there that’s going to get the attention of the press and gamers alike. Apparently this time, its full frontal nudity and if you haven’t took a gander at the video already, I highly suggest that you keep it that way (I couldn’t resist…..). I just had to see how far Rockstar is really taking GTA IV. There really going with the mature theme of the game and bringing it even further with the dlc. Now it’s not all full fledged porn or anything but rather just some guy standing up showing his stuff, but is this something we want in our games? If Rockstar is doing this will other games follow? I know, like me, the press is throwing this out of proportion, but I was just wondering. What’s your take on this?

Edit: As I was writing this I read that the dlc had been released.... So ummmm, ya.. Does anyone plan on getting it?

  1. I couldn't be more frustrated about this. First off, ok yay boobs but uh, you can see them anywhere? Not a very thrilling prospect.

And as a female gamer, I'm a teensy bit offended. When they do stuff like this, they make it pretty clear who they intend the game to be enjoyed by: not women. (Or straight ones, anyway. Or gay men, for that matter.) And its that kind of "subtle" but oh so clear messaging that drives most females away from gaming. Those kinds of blatant pandering to the lowest common denominator makes it clear that the video game industry is a boy's world. The "typical" female doesn't need cleavage or nudity. But that's exactly what has literally driven the video game industry. (I challenge you to find an early fighting game that DIDN'T have redonkulous boobs.) And then you wonder why your girlfriend doesn't want to play Soul Calibur til the break of dawn. You don't have to understand what it is to live in a world that was not made with you in mind. Its not as fun, lemme tell ya.

I'm not threatened by a desireable female form in any way, but when they do this cheap sleazy b.s. they make it pretty clear that they do not care about the female audience, and that's the part that irks me.

  2. Rockstar just wants to start a new controversy so that everyone talks about their DLC. I don't expect that other studios will follow their example.
I will get this DLC, but some time later.

  3. So my first response was "Oh God why!! what were they thinking?" But you know, you're exactly right Hans. Any press is good press. It's gonna be plastered all over the news that there's a wanger in Lost and Damned. And as negative as that will appear, it will do wonders for Rockstar's sales.

As far as me playing it, I could care less about the GTA series, they frustrate me to no end, gameplay wise, and I don't really see the appeal. But that's another conversation.

Also, Bad Fish, I don't really see where you're coming from on this one being that the video is regarding male frontal nudity?

  4. I really wondered what the female aspect of the matter was like. I'm glad you responded to the post. I for one, really have no problem with it and if I can get my hands on a cheap copy of GTA IV, then I will defiantly get it. Ya, its a little weird to see a full polygonal wang in a game, but its not nearly as bad as it could of been. I'm sure if Rockstar wanted to, they would make a full fledged sex scene. I'm still wondering if I want to dish out a 360 copy of the game and the DLC being priced out at $20.....

  5. @ Matt if its full frontal male nudity only, then I am surprised. And amused. In the interest of "evening the score", I'm delighted they are doing this.
